At the age of 25 J. Grant Brittain started photographing his friends skateboarding at the Del Mar Skate Ramps. After using a huge amount of film, he decided to take every photography class available at Palomar Junior College. This enabled him to manipulate his 35mm camera. During his time at college Brittain was introduced to the vast world of photography by a very influential instructor.
In 1983, Grant was asked to contribute to the first edition of TransWorld SKATEboarding magazine and later went on to become its founding Photo Editor and Senior Photographer. Over the past twenty years Grant has helped make TransWorls SKATEboarding magazine become one of the most successful magazines in the field.
Brittain has captured some of the best skaters of this century and his work never fails to become an instant classic. He has also worked along side many other skate photographers, teaching them what he has learn and “hopes they take as much inspiration from him as he takes from them”.
